King's Lynn

The port of King's Lynn, the birthplace of explorer Captain George Vancouver was, by the 14th Century, ranked as the third biggest port in England. Its prosperity rose with its links to the Hanseatic League and the export of corn. While the port and fishing fleet is now much reduced, reminders of its past status remain with such architectural gems as the 15th Century Guildhall and the Customs House.

As well as markets on Tuesday and Saturday and a newly-redeveloped retail centre, the town hosts two major classical and contemporary music festivals each year, while on Valentine's Day, the annual Mart funfair represents the start of the Showmen's calendar.
