Brancaster
Brancaster was the site of the Roman settlement Branodunum, which adjoined the then natural harbour of Brancaster Staithe. While the precise purpose of the Roman fort is not known, it is believed that it was in use to handle cargoes of grain and oysters.
The Ship, the remaining pub in Brancaster itself, is meanwhile believed to be haunted by the ghost of Horatio Nelson's nurse.
